Grief Support

GriefShare

It may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now. If you have lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend, you have probably found there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you have never faced before. GriefShare groups meet weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each GriefShare session has three distinct elements: video seminars, group discussions, and a personal workbook.

Ascend

Ascend is a week long program for students ages 5-18 who have experienced the divorce of their parents or the loss of a loved one, and for children ages 6-11 who have a sibling with disabilities. Students are in an age appropriate group where they will have the opportunity to discuss the common experiences associated with divorce, grief and common challenges as well as learn what God says about it. Students will also learn healthy coping and just have good fun. The program runs from 10am – 2pm daily for one week.

Shift

When the “shifts” of life occur, the aftermath is unpredictable and rarely stable. Our hope for kids, ages 11-18, dealing with the loss of a loved one is that as they process the shift that they have undergone, they’ll be equipped with the tools they need to build a solid foundation of faith and hope. Shift is a program that features facilitators who have experienced loss, a small group consisting of peers from their age group who are also processing the death of a loved one, and age-appropriate lessons and activities to help them explore their grief and God’s promises regarding comfort, healing, hope and eternity.

Kids Cope

When a young child experiences the death of a loved one life can feel chaotic, confusing and unpredictable. Kids Cope is a program aimed at helping children ages 5-10 understand their loss and navigate through the tangled ball of emotions they are encountering. The curriculum features facilitators who have experienced loss, a small group consisting of peers from their age group who are also processing the death of a loved one, and age appropriate lessons and activities to help them explore their grief and God’s promises regarding comfort, healing, hope and eternity.

GriefShare is for people grieving the death of a family member or friend. We understand that there are other losses in life that create feelings of grief. You might be experiencing a job loss, a divorce, estrangement from a child, or the loss of friends because of a move. This grief is real, but it is not the kind of grief discussed in GriefShare sessions. We encourage you to ask a pastor, counselor, or church leader for help in finding resources that will be of specific help in your situation. If you are going through separation or divorce, please consider participating in a DivorceCare program.

Volunteer to Help with Hospitality or Childcare for GriefShare

Each time that GriefShare meets, we want our participants to experience a warm and inviting environment that eliminates participant anxiety about the evening.  To do this we want to offer childcare, a welcoming environment, and plenty of volunteers.  The class meets from 6:30pm – 8:00pm on Tuesday nights (see link above for complete schedule).  You can commit to help for all nights or just choose a few nights on which you want to help.

FAQ’s

What can you expect when you attend a GriefShare meeting?

GriefShare is a support group that meets weekly.  There are three key parts to the GriefShare weekly experience: Video Seminars, Group Discussions, and a Personal Workbook.  Each video seminar features dynamic teaching from top grief recovery experts. After the video/teaching time, your small group will discuss the video content and issues faced by group members. Each small group is led by people who have experienced grief in their lives and can relate to much of the pain, emotions, and challenges you are experiencing. Your personal workbook will help reinforce each topic throughout the rest of the week. For more information about GriefShare visit their website here.
